More Metro Accountability on the Way

We are pleased to report to our Trustees another success in our efforts to improve Metro. As you know, we scored a major success in securing an additional $500 million in annual, dedicated funding for Metro last year. Now a Congressional bill, which is expected to be introduced in the upcoming weeks, captures FC2’s longstanding call for increased accountability and sound decision-making for Metro. Specifically, it strengthens Metro’s Office of the Inspector General and enhances capital spending procedures.

These “good governance” ideas have been central to FC2’s proposed solution for Metro since the beginning of the organization’s work on Metro reform, and this specific solution was outlined in Tony William’s Washington Post op-ed in March. We are happy to see that this coming legislation reflects FC2’s call for increased accountability, and we look forward to offering our full support when the bill is formally introduced.

We want to give a big thanks to all of the FC2 Trustees who have been supportive of our Metro reform work—with special appreciation to Ed Walter, Bob FlanaganRusty Lindner and Debby Ratner Salzberg for their engagement and guidance.
