The Federal City Council applauds Mayor Muriel Bowser and the District of Columbia for being selected as one the Rockefeller Foundation’s 100 Resilient Cities. The Federal City Council was proud to partner with the District of Columbia on its application.
The 100 Resilient Cities initiative will help DC prepare for shocks to our economy in areas such as terrorism, flooding, infrastructure failure and heat by focusing attention on the underlying stresses our community faces in areas such as inequality, access to affordable housing, a stressed transportation system and the risks associated with the over-reliance on a single industry.
“Washington, DC is a symbol of strength for our nation and the city’s inclusion in the 100 Resilient Cities Network will put us on a path to an even brighter, more resilient future,” said Federal City Council CEO and Executive Director Tony Williams. “As our nation’s capital grows, we must find ways to bolster our resilience while protecting and preserving our prosperity. We look forward to partnering with the Rockefeller Foundation to support DC’s resilience efforts, while connecting and learning from other global cities in the network.”
With its acceptance into the network of 100 Resilient Cities, DC will receive access to funding for two years for a Chief Resilience Officer, financial support for consulting to develop a holistic City Resilience Strategy Plan, access to the 100 Resilient Cities platform of services from business partners that will support strategy implementation and support and networking benefits of being part of an elite network of cities.
