The Horning Brothers, headed by FC2 Trustee David Roodberg, is purchasing and delivering groceries for their tenants in Wards 7 and 8, in partnership with Martha’s Table. When a public health emergency was declared, they worried tenants would not have good access to fresh groceries while social distancing.
Beginning in late March, the Horning Brothers set aside money to buy groceries, which are prepared and bagged by Martha’s Table and then delivered by Horning Brothers staff. Six weeks later, roughly 3,600 bags of free groceries have been delivered to 1,500 residents. The groceries are enough to supply a few meals per week. They plan on delivering free groceries for a total of 15 weeks.
