Federal City Council Statement on the Passing of Marion Barry

The Trustees of the Federal City Council express their condolences to the family, friends and associates of Marion Barry on the occasion of his passing. As Mayor, Councilmember and citizen, Marion served the District of Columbia with passion, charisma and devotion. He gave a powerful voice to many residents, but his most appreciated quality may have been his deft, personal touch. Landmark investments during his tenure as Mayor such as the redevelopment of Union Station, the first Convention Center and the Verizon Center have proven to be wise and beneficial to our city. Today, we join with our fellow civic leaders and residents to salute Marion’s commitment and mourn his loss.
