FC2 Congratulates the District of Columbia on Being Named Finalist for Amazon’s HQ2

WASHINGTON, DC – The Federal City Council congratulates the District of Columbia for being named as one of 20 finalists to attract Amazon’s HQ2. The winning city will benefit from an expected 50,000 jobs and $5 billion in investment, which would be transformative for the economy of DC and the region.

Making it to this stage of Amazon’s HQ2 competition illuminates the competitiveness and attractiveness of DC as a location to innovate and grow a business, under the leadership of DC Mayor Muriel Bowser and Deputy Mayor for Economic Development Brian Kenner.

“Amazon’s selection of DC is an endorsement of our educated and talented workforce, our world-class infrastructure, and our business environment, which are key ingredients for sustained economic success” said Tony Williams, the Federal City Council’s CEO and Executive Director.

The District of Columbia is not the only Washington-area finalist for Amazon’s HQ2, joining Montgomery County, MD and Northern Virginia. “The success of three bids from the Washington area reinforces the strength of our region and the opportunity before us when we work collaboratively”, said W. Edward Walter, the Federal City Council’s Chairman.
