D.C. Tax Revision Commission Touted as U.S. Model

As Congress grapples with tax reform, The New York Times encourages it to take a page from our capital city (“For Tax Reform Lessons, Congress Needn’t Look Far”). Columnist James B. What We're Reading

A Legacy Along the Anacostia

The Anacostia Waterfront Trust’s Doug Siglin recommends this evocative NPR story about the Seafarers Yacht Club on the Anacostia River (“They Built Their Own Boating 'Shangri-La.' Preserving It May Be Just As Hard”) by Beck Harlan, a volunteer photographer for the Trust. Founded in the 1940s, the Club was the creation of a high school teacher who wanted a place for black boaters to gather in the segregated District. The story recounts the club’s history and the work of today’s members who act as stewards of the river and legacy keepers for their club. The Trust is working closely with Seafarers to develop a survival plan.
